Cook Estate Enriches College of Agriculture and Home Economics
Jacqueline Cook wanted to make a difference when she decided to give the bulk of her estate to New Mexico State University. She had no academic connections to the university, but she loved animals-particularly horses and dogs.
That led to her decision to establish two endowments in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics for the departments of animal and range sciences and agricultural and extension education (AXED). Departments can use the money to support scholarships and other student needs.
AXED department head Dr. Tom Dormody said, "The gift from Jacqueline Cook is a tremendous boost for the department and our students interested in careers with the Cooperative Extension Service. We will use the yearly earnings to provide scholarships and financial support for students on Extension internships and to cover travel expenses for students attending Extension conferences. This generous gift will enhance the educational experience for many students."
Dr. Mark Wise expressed similar sentiments. "The generous gift from Jacqueline Cook to the Department of Animal and Range Sciences will have a tremendous impact on many of our students," he said. "Without such generosity, many of our students could not follow their dreams and achieve their goals as successfully."
