Connie Lee Supports Her Love of Music
Connie Graham Lee first arrived in Las Cruces when she entered New Mexico State University in 1966 on a music scholarship. She played in both the university band and the orchestra while earning her degree in education. She was also a member of Chi Omega sorority and a student senator. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1970 and a master's in teaching in 1973.
Teaching was Connie's life until 1998, when she retired from the Las Cruces Public School system. Immediately after her retirement, she joined Edward Jones financial services, where, she says, teaching is still an important component of what she does every day.
Music has also remained an important part of Connie's life. Since 1989, Connie has been a member of the flute section of Mesilla Valley Concert Band. This volunteer group under the direction of Dr. Bill Clark strives for a professional level of musicianship among its members.
Connie's love of music led her to become a strong supporter of KRWG-FM, the public radio station at New Mexico State University.
"The station matches my interests with its commitment to classical music and straight-forward news," she says.
For that reason, Connie has accepted a position on the board of advisors for radio and TV. She says the link between the broadcast media and the community they serve is important to her and she wants to be sure the community's voice is heard.
Connie admits that, after years of serving on a variety of boards in Las Cruces, she has backed off in recent years to focus more attention on two major hobbies: quilting and her dogs. However, as a member of The 1888 Society at New Mexico State University, her plans include long-term support of the university. She is the principal sponsor of the Graham Family Endowed scholarship in the music department to support a student who is a member of the university band.
